New leadership takes office at the Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes (APHNH)

The Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes (APHNH), the apex body representing Sri Lanka’s private healthcare providers, has announced the appointment of its new Governing Council for the 2025–2027 term. The announcement was made at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, held recently at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla. The newly elected Governing Council will be led by Mr. Raveen Wickramasinghe, Chief Executive Officer of the Ruhunu Hospital Group, who assumes office as President of APHNH. Under his leadership, the Association aims to guide the private healthcare sector through a critical phase of growth and transformation, while continuing its long-standing commitment to service excellence, collaboration, and ethical healthcare delivery.

Supporting the President are Vice Presidents Mr. Mahanil Perera of Durdans Hospitals, Mr. Dinesh Ranaweera of Royal Hospital, and Dr. Vibash Wijeratne of Ninewells Hospital. The office bearers also include Dr. Sandamali Weerasinghe of Gomez Hospital as Honorary Secretary, Mr. Nishantha Jayamanne of Medihelp Hospitals as Honorary Assistant Secretary, Dr. Chatura Weerasinghe of  Winlanka Hospital as Honorary Treasurer, and Mr. Prabhan Gunawardene of Hemas Hospitals as Honorary Assistant Treasurer. The Governing Council further comprises Dr. Ruwan Senatilleke and Dr. Sunil Rathnapreya of Asiri Hospitals, Prof. Lal Chandrasena of Nawaloka Hospital, Eng. K.A.A.P. Kuruppu Arachchi of Pannipitiya Private Hospital, Dr. Chaminda Kumara of Lanka Hospital, Dr. D.K.D. Mathew of Blue Cross Hospital, Dr. Fathima Habiba Sheriff of Western Hospital, Dr. Isshani Fernando of New Philip Hospital, Dr. Lasantha Karunasekara of Ceylon Hospitals, Dr. U. Banagala of Kings Hospital, Mr. Jayapathma Wanninayaka of Cooperative Hospital Kurunegala, Ms. Roshitta Nirooshan of Melsta Hospital, and Mr. Bathiya Angammana of Singha Hospital. Outlining his vision for the Association, Mr. Wickramasinghe stated that APHNH’s focus for the next two years will be on strengthening the private healthcare ecosystem through policy advocacy, regulatory engagement, and capacity building. He emphasized the importance of enhancing quality standards, promoting transparent communication among stakeholders, and fostering international collaborations that will elevate Sri Lanka’s healthcare delivery to global benchmarks. He further noted that private hospitals play an indispensable role in the national healthcare system and reaffirmed APHNH’s commitment to ensuring that this contribution is both recognized and strengthened.

Established in 1972, APHNH serves as the sole representative body for private hospitals and nursing homes registered under the Private Health Services Regulatory Council. The Association works closely with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and member institutions to promote high-quality, ethical, and patient-centered healthcare across Sri Lanka. Through continued collaboration and strategic engagement, the newly appointed Governing Council aims to advance healthcare standards, strengthen professional development, and position Sri Lanka’s private healthcare sector as a trusted partner in national health advancement.
