HUTCH Sri Lanka Joins Hands with NSBM to Bridge Academia, Industry, and Innovation

HUTCH Sri Lanka and NSBM Green University entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding on 17th September with NSBM Green University, marking a strong step in bridging the gap between academia and industry. The agreement paves the way for both organizations to work closely in identifying and nurturing emerging talent, refining educational offerings, and supporting the entrepreneurial aspirations of students.

Under this collaboration, HUTCH Sri Lanka will provide opportunities for undergraduates to engage in internships and trainee positions, enabling them to gain valuable hands-on experience. Beyond these entry-level roles, the partnership also includes employer brand-building through workshops at NSBM, giving students insight into real-world practices and reinforcing HUTCH’s presence among future talent. NSBM and HUTCH Sri Lanka will also collaborate on knowledge sharing: providing industry input for course and curriculum development, supporting students (on prior appointment) with field visits and assignment work, and working on special projects that reflect the shared brand values of both institutions.

The agreement also covers graduate talent acquisition, allowing HUTCH Sri Lanka to integrate top graduating students into its workforce. Both parties believe this partnership results in mutual benefit: students receive meaningful exposure and preparation for professional life, while HUTCH secures access to talent aligned with industry needs and further strengthens its reputation as an employer of choice.

Commenting on the partnership, Mangala Bandara, General Manager Corporate Affairs at HUTCH Sri Lanka, said: “We are honoured to partner with NSBM Green University in this endeavour. This collaboration is something we genuinely believe we deserve, as we share a vision for excellence, growth, and helping students succeed. We look forward to guiding undergraduates and fresh graduates, and together building capabilities that benefit both careers and the broader telecommunications sector.”

Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, Deputy Vice Chancellor of NSBM, added: “NSBM is delighted to partner with HUTCH Sri Lanka, a company recognised for its innovation and people-centric approach. This agreement will enrich our curriculum, give students authentic industry exposure, and support entrepreneurial ambitions. We believe this collaboration will cultivate a new generation of professionals well equipped to face the challenges ahead.”

This MoU with NSBM underscores HUTCH Sri Lanka’s commitment to building long-term partnerships with higher education, investing in human capital, and contributing positively to Sri Lanka’s talent pipeline.
