70The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning across several parts of Sri Lanka.
The advisory, issued at noon today (13), will remain in effect until 11.00 p.m.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central, North-Western and Uva provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Mannar and Vavuniya districts this afternoon.
The department also warned of temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.
